Two step down from pension fund task force

Posted online
Matt Morrow and Carol Mihalevich have stepped down from serving on the city's Police/Fire Pension Fund Citizens' Task Force citing potential conflicts of interest, according to a city of Springfield news release.

Morrow and Mihalevich were among the 11 individuals selected last week by Springfield City Council.

In Morrow's role as director of the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield, he represents the group's interest regarding residential home sprinkler requirement legislation and has taken a position inconsistent with the Springfield Fire Department.

Mihalevich's husband, Don, is fleet administrator for Springfield Public Works.

The decisions add two available spots to the 15-member task force, which is charged with solving the pension fund's $190 million shortfall. For the remaining six seats, City Council will accept applications through 5 p.m. April 16.

The application form is available at the link below. Citizens also can call (417) 864-1010 to request an application via mail or visit the Busch Building, 840 Boonville Ave., to pick up a form during business hours.

The city received 54 applications in the first round; citizens who applied then do not need to submit another form, the city said. The nine members already selected are Mary Beth Daniels, Jerry Harmison, Kenneth Homan, James Jeffries, Robert L. Jones, Peggy Kubicek, Charles Munsey, Craig Wagoner and Lloyd Young.

Council, which also will consider names recommended by council members, expects to vote on the remaining spots during its April 21 lunch meeting.
