Two OKC buildings demolished to clear way for 27-story tower

Posted online
The 11-story Black Hotel and the adjoining eight-story Motor Hotel, both on North Hudson Ave., were imploded Sunday morning in downtown Oklahoma City to help make way for the 27-story BOK Park Plaza tower and two garages.

The implosions occurred as planned after 15 charges went off at 8 a.m. The hotels came down in 20 seconds and several drones joined local television news helicopters flying over to capture footage of the buildings coming down.

The crowd cheered as the buildings collapsed, though some opposed to the city’s plans made clear through social media their displeasure with tearing down the block.
