Two local men indicted for trafficking counterfeit goods

Two local men, one from Springfield and one from Nixa, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly trafficking in counterfeit goods.

Lukas Rivas, 21, of Springfield, and Brent Luna, 25, of Nixa, were charged July 28 in a six-count indictment returned by a federal jury in Springfield for trafficking in counterfeit sports gear, according to a news release from Beth Phillips, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri.

Luna is charged with one count of trafficking counterfeit Nike shoes, one count trafficking counterfeit National Football League jerseys and one count smuggling $48,464 worth of Nike shoes into the U.S., the release said.

Rivas is charged with two counts of trafficking counterfeit Nike shoes, according to the release.

Rivas and Luna are also charged with one count for aiding and abetting each other in trafficking of counterfeit Nike shoes, the release said.

Under the federal indictment is a forfeiture allegation, which would require Rivas and Luna to forfeit the counterfeit goods seized by law enforcement officers: more than 600 pairs of Nike shoes, 45 NFL and National Basketball League jerseys, 67 Major League Baseball caps, jeans, belts, shoes, hoodies, designer clothing items and $3,448, the release said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Randall Eggert is prosecuting the case, and it was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Springfield Police Department, the release said.[[In-content Ad]]
