Two competing measures to end the partial government shutdown failed in the Senate yesterday.
The Senate first blocked a proposal to fund the president's $5.7 billion border wall, and legislators then blocked a Democratic measure that omitted the wall.
In the Republican-controlled Senate, the Democratic measure gathered more support.
