Months after Trump took over the @POTUS account, Twitter users are waving goodbye.
Twitter revealed Thursday that it failed to add any new monthly active users during the June quarter. Worse still, its user base in the U.S. actually declined to 68 million from 70 million in the prior quarter.
The announcement sent its stock tumbling 13 percent in early trading Thursday and renewed concerns on whether the micro-blogging platform has room to grow.
Twitter grew by 9 million users during the first three months of this year, then crediting “news and political” activity for their strong performance. Though, it soon died down.
“The Trump bump was a one-time deal,” said analyst James Cakmak, who covers Twitter for Monness, Crespi, Hardt & Co.
Twitter execs said the flat user numbers were due in part to seasonal trends. They did not cite politics.
