The all-male executives club at social media juggernaut Twitter Inc. (NYSE: TWTR) has come to an end. Former Pearson Chief Executive Marjorie Scardino has signed on as the mircobogging site's first female director.
Twitter faced a public backlash recently for its lack of women in top executive positions after submitting Securities and Exchange Commission paperwork for its initial public offering.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Scardino’s appointment is effective immediately and she will join the audit committee. Scardino was the CEO of Pearson from 1997 to 2012 and also served on the board of Nokia Corp. until April.
According to the SEC filing, Scardino was granted a restricted stock unit award of 4,018 shares of common stock. That amounts to about $177,000 based on recent stock prices.
The 66-year-old sent her first tweet Thursday.
