Twister kills 1 in Illinois; storm moves south and east

A violent storm system that produced a deadly tornado and widespread damage in a small community northwest of Chicago rolled south and east Friday, threatening strong winds and large hail to the Gulf Coast and Mid-Atlantic states, USA Today reports.

At least two twisters, possibly more, touched down during the extent of the storm Thursday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

A 67-year-old woman in Fairdale, Ill, 80 miles northwest of Chicago, was killed by one of the twisters. In the unincorporated town of Fairdale - which has 200 residents - around 17 structures were destroyed.
