Keith Patrick and Andy Ray install light-emitting diode, or LED, lights in the refrigerated cases at Wal-Mart’s 3315 S. Campbell Ave. store on March 18. The change is part of Wal-Mart’s overall effort to achieve sustainability and reduce energy usage at stores, according to a company news release. LED systems save 40 percent of lighting energy compared to fluorescent lights in a five-door refrigerated case, according to the release, and the change could save as much as 3 percent on a store’s total electric bill.
