Turblex to supply Singapore plant with blowers

Posted online

Springfield-based Turblex Corporation has recently received an order valued in excess of $9 million to supply 10 wastewater aeration blowers to the new Changi wastewater treatment plant located in Singapore, according to an announcement from Turblex.

The single-stage centrifugal blowers will be used in the wastewater aeration process and are some of the largest integrally geared turbocompressors ever built. Each unit produces 50,000 cubic feet per minute, at 15.5 pounds per square inch gauge discharge pressure. Each blower is fitted with a 3,500 horsepower electric motor.

The Changi treatment plant is located near the new Singapore airport. It is the world's largest wastewater plant and, when finished in the year 2007, it will handle wastewater flow almost 20 times the volume of Springfield's Southwest Treatment Plant.

Singapore is one of the fastest growing economies in the Far East.

With a population of 4.5 million people, this industrialized nation has implemented a forward-reaching and advanced environmental plan to help maintain Singapore's clean and healthy environment, according to Turblex

The water will be treated to such an extent that it can be re-used for industry and irrigation.

The Changi plant represents an unusually sophisticated design, applying for the first time three-dimensional construction design and advanced computer control.

The Turblex Corporation is a partnership with HV-Turbo, Helsingor, Denmark, and Mace Industries Inc., Springfield. The Turblex manufacturing facilities on West Walnut Street employ more than 60 people.
