President Donald Trump announced a suspension of travel to the United States from most of Europe in an attempt to slow the spread of coronavirus.
The ban impacts the 26 Schengen countries including France, Germany and Italy. The United Kingdom, Ireland and other non-Schengen countries are unaffected, and U.S. citizens also are exempt.
"This is the most aggressive and comprehensive effort to confront a foreign virus in modern history," Trump said.
