Trump Plaza to close, costing Atlantic City 1,000 jobs

Posted online
It's the end of an era for Atlantic City: Trump Plaza is closing.

Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc. made the announcement Monday, saying it plans to close as soon at Sept. 16. According to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, 1,009 people work in the casino.

Bloomberg reports the move will leave the Atlantic City-based company with one property, the Trump Taj Mahal, in the market.

The closure is just part of a larger hurdle the seaside New Jersey resort town is facing. The gambling hub is withering as two other casinos have closed and a third is searching for a buyer in bankruptcy.

According to Bloomberg, if all the properties close, as many as 8,000 people will be unemployed.
