Trump offers concessions to automakers hit by tariffs

President Donald Trump signed executive orders Tuesday that are designed to provide relief to automakers hit by 25% tariffs on automobiles and auto parts.

One order offers a 3.75% rebate for one year relative to the sales price of a domestically assembled vehicle. The rebate drops to 2.5% of the vehicle's sales price in the second year.

“We just wanted to help them during this little transition, short term,” President Donald Trump told reporters. “We didn’t want to penalize them."
