Trump launches military strike against Syria

On President Donald Trump's orders, the United States yesterday launched a military strike on a Syrian government airbase.

In response to a chemical weapons attack that killed dozens of civilians earlier in the week, U.S. warships sent 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the airbase. The base housed the warplanes that carried out the chemical attacks, officials say.

The strike is the first direct military action taken by the United States against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the country's six-year civil war.
