U.S. presidential candidate and real estate mogul Donald Trump filed a $500 million lawsuit on Tuesday against Univision over the Spanish-language TV network's decision to end its contract to broadcast the Miss USA pageant, which is co-owned by Trump, according to Reuters.
In the suit, Trump accuses Univision of a "thinly veiled attempt" to stifle his freedom of speech to boost Democratic frontrunner Hilary Clinton. Haim Saban, the network's principal owner, is a Clinton donor, the lawsuit claims.
Univision severed ties with Trump last week, saying it would not air the July 12 pageant because of remarks the presidential hopeful made when announcing his candidacy on June 16. In the speech, he accused Mexico of sending rapists and other criminals to the United States.
NBCUniversal also
announced Monday it would no longer air Trump's hit reality show "The Apprentice," or Miss USA and Miss Universe.
