Trump declares $9B in assets as he announces presidential bid

Posted online
After nearly two decades of on-again, off-again flirting with the White House, The Donald finally is ready to commit.

Donald Trump officially announced his candidacy for president of the United States during a Tuesday press conference at Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York.

In so doing, the Washington Post reports the real estate mogul will declare more than $9 billion in assets, double his estimated net worth. Forbes magazine had estimated Trump’s value at $4.1 billion, ranking 405th on its richest 500 list, tied with Bass Pro Shops founder John Morris.

According to the Post, Trump also made headlines this week when he told the Des Moines Register he would be the “most successful person ever to run for president.”

“Ross Perot isn’t successful like me. Romney was — I have a Gucci store that’s worth more money than Romney,” Trump said, referencing the fashion retailer on his property on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

The net worth would make Trump the wealthiest Republican contender.
