Trump: DACA is dead

President Donald Trump has declared “dead” the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program – commonly called DACA, a deportation shield for young undocumented immigrants.

 

Trump made the announcement during a series of tweets Monday, also blaming Democrats for failing to salvage the program he moved to terminate this past fall.

 

The Twitter thread came about a week after Trump signed a $1.3 trillion spending bill to avoid another government shutdown this year. The bill did not include funding for a proposed border wall between the United States and Mexico.

 

In another tweet Monday, Trump said Mexico was “making a fortune” on the North American Free Trade Agreement, for which he threatened to end U.S. involvement if Mexico failed to tighten border security for those entering the U.S.
