Harvard University has refused to comply with a list of demands from the federal government, leading the Trump administration to pause funding to the school.
"No government — regardless of which party is in power — should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue,” Harvard President Alan Garber said in reference to government demands.
The Trump administration has called on Harvard to reduce the power of students and faculty members, report foreign students who have conduct violations to the federal government and ensure academics at the school are "viewpoint diverse."
With Harvard's refusal, the Trump administration plans to freeze $2.2 billion in grants and a $60 million contract.
