The Trump administration on Tuesday rescinded a rule that would have required foreign students to transfer or exit the country if their schools held classes entirely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The move faced legal pressure, including lawsuits by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
"This case ... made abundantly clear that real lives are at stake in these matters, with the potential for real harm," MIT President L. Rafael Reif said in a statement. "We need to approach policy making, especially now, with more humanity, more decency — not less."
