President Donald Trump is facing accusations of market manipulation related to his decision yesterday to pause new tariffs.
Less than four hours before announcing the pause on Wednesday, Trump posted on Truth Social: “THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!! DJT." Those initials are the same as the ticker symbol for Trump Media & Technology Group, the operator of Truth Social that saw its stock rise 22% on Wednesday.
Sen. Adam Schiff, D-California, is calling for an investigation.
"These constant gyrations in policy provide dangerous opportunities for insider trading," he said. “Who in the administration knew about Trump’s latest tariff flip-flop ahead of time? Did anyone buy or sell stocks, and profit at the public’s expense? I’m writing to the White House – the public has a right to know.”
