Trek recalls 1 million bikes after rider paralyzed

Posted online
Trek Bicycles is recalling nearly 1 million bikes for a safety issue that resulted in one rider becoming paralyzed.

The recall comprises 900,000 bikes in the U.S. and 98,000 in Canada. They are model years 2000-15 sold starting in 1999. Sold between $480 and $1,650, the bikes were made in Taiwan and China.

According to CNNMoney, the issue is a "quick release" lever on the front wheel of the bikes, which can interfere with the disk brakes and cause the wheel to stop turning or separate from the bike frame.
