“By directing Web browsers to www.treasurer.mo.gov, citizens will be able to easily access information ranging from help for farms and businesses to educational savings opportunities for children,” Steelman said in a news release.
The site contains up-to-date information about major initiatives undertaken by Steelman, including changes to MOST, Missouri’s 529 College Savings Program, and the Believe Program, which Steelman initiated to enable Missouri corporations to set up college savings accounts for Missouri foster children.
For the consumer
Consumers can access information and links through the Web site regarding economic education that is available through the Missouri Council on Economic Education, as well as information regarding identity theft, consumer and securities fraud.
The site also contains information about the three divisions of the Treasurer’s Office: Banking, Investments and Unclaimed Property.
During the last fiscal year, the Treasurer’s Office returned more than $20 million in unclaimed property to citizens. The Web site allows citizens to check accounts online to see if the Unclaimed Property Division has money that belongs to them.
Information about how to reclaim property is provided on the site.
Banks and businesses
Businesses and banks can access investment policies, investment holding reports and weekly deposit rates in the section containing information about the Investment Division.
Also featured is a model investment policy for use by local governments and school districts.
The banking information includes an overview of services performed by the Banking Division, as well as a product summary list of banks across the state that is available in both English and Spanish.
Small businesses, farming and livestock operations, and job-creating enterprises will be able to find information on the Web site regarding the state’s linked-deposit program that enables banks to provide low-cost loans to Missouri citizens and companies to create jobs and strengthen economic growth.
Public information
The site also features easily accessible press and event information, including weekly and monthly financial reports prepared by the Treasurer’s Office so citizens and businesses can easily track state funds and balances.
“The success of our system of government depends on the ability of citizens to access information about government and how it is working on their behalf,” Steelman said. “We’re hopeful that our new Web site design makes information more convenient and accessible for all Missouri citizens.”
