Toys 'R Us pulls 'Breaking Bad' toys after protests

Posted online
Everyone’s favorite meth kingpin isn’t welcome at Toy ‘R Us.

That’s the message from the nationwide toy store as it pulled “Breaking Bad” themed action figures from its shelves following protest from a Florida moms group.

According to the Washington Post, the dolls, based on the recently concluded AMC series, featured characters based on Walter White, a meth-cooking high school science teacher, and his sidekick, Jesse Pinkman. Along with the action figures, the toys came with fake bags of meth, sacks of cash and gas masks.

Mother Susan Schrivjer started a petition – which has garnered 9,300 signatures so far – saying the sale is a “dangerous deviation from their family friendly values.”

In an official statement, Toys ‘R Us said the dolls “have taken an indefinite sabbatical.”

According to the Washington Post, a person who identified himself as Daniel Pickett formed a counter-petition calling for the retailer to keep the toys, citing adult collectors who might shop at their stores.

“It is not irresponsible to have these in the store. It is only irresponsible if they sell them to people they are not appropriate for,” he wrote.

In response, actor Bryan Cranston, who played White on the show, tweeted: “I’m so mad, I'm burning my Florida Mom action figure in protest.”

Kmart, Barnes & Noble and Sears still will sell the toys.
