Toyota profits jump 10 percent

Toyota Motor Corp. delivered a 10 percent increase in net income to $5.3 billion for its fiscal first quarter, despite a downturn in global vehicle sales.

The Japanese automaker reported global sales of its vehicles dropped by 6 percent to 2.11 million for the quarter ended June 30.

According to USA Today, revenue increased 9 percent to $57.7 billion.
