Toyota outsells GM in first quarter

Toyota Motor Corp. sold a company record 2.6 million vehicles in the first quarter, outpacing rivals General Motors and Volkswagen, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Toyota's sales numbers rose 6 percetn compared to the same quarter a year earlier. GM increased sales 2 percent, and Volkwagen posted just less than 6 percent improvement.

Toyota is targeting sales of more than 10 million vehicles this year. The company finished 2013 with 9.98 million vehicle sales, keeping it the top-selling automaker for the second year in a row.
