Tower Club changing model, name

The Tower Club atop Hammons Tower is switching up its name and service model amid a multimillion-dollar renovation of the 22-story building.

In November, the newly renamed JQH Tower Club will become available to the general public for events, said spokeswoman Sheri Smith. A kitchen will be available for outside catering companies, but a restaurant will not operate and no kitchen staff will be employed, she said. It previously served as a members-only dining club and event space before it suddenly stopped accepting reservations earlier this year. The Springfield News-Leader first reported the club’s name change.

The 21st and 22nd floors of the 30-year-old building that houses the JQH Tower Club currently are being remodeled in conjunction with an ongoing multimillion-dollar facelift of the building’s main-floor lobby and elevators, according to Kelsi Hall, president of John Q. Hammons Industries Inc. subsidiary Plaza Realty & Management Services LLC. The club is off limits to the media during renovations.

“We are happily refreshing several parts of our building,” she said.

The club previously featured crystal chandeliers, brass-covered decor and Springfield’s highest view through floor-to-ceiling windows. The view remains, but the brass accents have been replaced with brushed stainless steel, light-colored wood has been stained dark brown, and plastic plants are being replaced with live ones from Dream Grower Inc.

Three of the four elevators have been completely refurbished, including the mechanical and security features, Hall said. Additionally, the lobby lighting was updated with more energy-efficient options, and the engraved tenant directory also will be replaced with a digital directory, Smith said.
