The 125-mile Stage 2 – the longest of the tour – started in Clinton and crossed Springfield city limits at mid-afternoon, finishing at Kimbrough Avenue and Trafficway. Cavendish of Team Columbia took the win, stretching his lead in the general classification to 12 seconds ahead of team Liquigas’ Francesco Chicchi, according to a Tour of Missouri news release. Cavendish won four stages at the 2008 Tour de France.
Stage 3, an 18-mile individual time trial, is in Branson today. The stage starts at 11 a.m. at Branson Landing and has three climbs, including a 2.5-mile trek to Shepherd of the Hills Homestead and Outdoor Center.
The Tour of Missouri concludes Sunday in St. Louis.
