The inaugural Tour of Missouri professional cycling race started Sept. 11 in Kansas City and took 120 riders through nine cities, including Springfield, Branson and Lebanon, before concluding in St. Louis. During closing ceremonies, Gov. Matt Blunt touted the race’s economic benefits to the state.

“Missouri has been privileged to host this race and showcase to the world just how much our state has to offer,” said Blunt, who initiated bringing the international bike race to Missouri in 2005 after seeing successes of the Tour de Georgia. “I hope that all cyclists and spectators enjoyed the warm hospitality of the Show-Me State and will visit again to explore and see more of our beautiful state.”
