Toth and Associates Inc. applies engineering expertise to projects intended to strengthen communities across the Springfield region, from schools and public spaces to housing, utilities and storm shelters. Company officials lay out their vision as “stronger communities through reliable engineering and design.”
One recent example is Reed Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, where Toth provided structural and civil engineering for a $60 million, 128,900-square-foot replacement school. Built on the school’s historic campus rather than a greenfield site, the project includes a 450-seat auditorium designed to serve as a storm shelter for the student body. Elements of the original school, including auditorium flooring and historic stone reliefs, were incorporated into the new building.
Toth also donated most of the engineering for Birthplace Plaza, dedicated April 30, 2026, at the downtown Springfield site where the telegram naming Route 66 was sent a century earlier. The company says private partners absorbed costs that the project otherwise could not carry, helping create a permanent public landmark and Route 66 tour stop.
Its impact also reaches into the region’s future. Toth officials say they’re working with Hawkins Mill LLC as the engineering partner for Hawkins Mill, a planned 104-acre mixed-use neighborhood in north Springfield. The approved plan allows a range of housing types, including single-family homes, townhomes, duplexes and apartments, as well as neighborhood commercial space.
The company reports 251 employees, including 219 at its Springfield headquarters, and says it has been the area’s largest engineering firm for 15 consecutive years. Revenue reached nearly $45 million in 2025, marking some 146% growth over the previous five years. Toth says its Springfield-based team serves clients all around the country, bringing revenue from outside the region into the local economy. A 15,000-square-foot expansion of its Republic Road headquarters is on pace in 2026.
Toth also helps public entities secure funding for infrastructure and safety projects. The company says it has helped more than 150 public entities obtain more than $350 million in federal grants since 2010, including nearly $162 million through Federal Emergency Management Agency applications for area schools and municipalities since 2020. Company officials point to safe rooms used for shelter during 2025 tornadoes in Three Rivers, Delta and Potosi.
Community investment includes a new $150,000, five-year fund for engineering student organizations at Missouri State University and the launch of an annual celebration of Springfield-area engineers in October, as well as United Way Ozarks Region campaigns by employees that brought in over $17,000 in charitable giving over five holiday seasons. Through projects, workforce development and civic partnerships, Toth’s track record shows that engineering can help build both essential infrastructure and a stronger regional community.
