A series of storms spawned multiple tornadoes late last night in Missouri.
"There was a lot of devastation throughout the state," Gov. Mike Parson said. "We were very fortunate last night that we didn't have more injuries than what we had, and we didn't have more fatalities across the state."
Three people were killed and several were injured after a tornado touched down just north of Joplin.
In Jefferson City, several buildings sustained heavy damages, including the roofs of school buildings. The state's capital was hit by a "violent tornado," according to the National Weather Service.
