Tony Stewart: Johnny Morris helped me grieve

Posted online
Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris was one of the few people allowed into Tony Stewart’s inner circle in the weeks following his racing accident that resulted in the death of Kevin Ward Jr.

Stewart said this week Morris reached out to him as he was grieving and contemplating his return to the racetrack, according to The Florida Times-Union.

"Johnny Morris was one of the people who came to my house to see me while I was in Indiana,” Stewart said, addressing how his sponsors have responded to the accident. “We spoke to people from Mobil 1, and they came to see us the last couple weeks at the racetrack. The support from them has been amazing.”

Bass Pro and Mobil 1 are the lead sponsors for Stewart’s car. So far, sponsors have remained by his side, and Stewart said he’s ready to return to his sponsor duties.
