Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS shoes, will speak Oct. 6 at Missouri State University for the school's fall public affairs convocation.
His lecture, dubbed "The New Rules for Tomorrow's Business: A Student's Guide to Making a Difference in the World" will be presented at 7 p.m. in Juanita K Hammons Hall. The event is free, but tickets are required, according to an MSU news release.
TOMS shoes, which was founded in 2006, donates one pair of shoes to a needy child for every pair that is purchased, according to its
Web site.
Mycoskie will address changes in businesses as a result of the emergence of social media outlets, such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as charity in business.
Mycoskie is 33 years old and lives on a sailboat in Los Angeles. TOMS was presented with the People's Design Award from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum of the Smithsonian Institution in 2007, and Mycoskie was a recipient of the U.S. Secretary of State's 2009 Award for Corporate Excellence in 2009, according to the TOMS Web site.
The theme of the MSU Public Affairs Fall 2010 Convocation Lecture is Leading in a Global Society, an examination of emerging forms of global leadership, the release said.
