The New England Patriots will play their first four games of the 2016 season without starting quarterback Tom Brady in the pocket.
A federal appeals court on Monday ruled in favor of the NFL in the "Deflategate" case, reinstating Brady's original four-game suspension imposed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, according to CNN.
The ruling reverses the decision by a federal judge, Richard M. Berman, who had nullified Brady's four-game suspension in September because of "several significant legal deficiencies” in the original investigation.
Brady has continually denied wrongdoing in the Deflategate case, which alleged the Patriots took air out of the footballs New England would use, making them below the league-mandated minimum pressure levels at the AFC Championship Game in January 2015. The presumed advantage of an underinflated football is that it is easier to catch, CNN reports.
Brady was accused of destroying potential evidence in the form of a cellphone which has records of text messages between him and locker room attendants.
