Looks like Wal-Mart might have started something. When the retailer announced plans last week to increase the wages it pays to workers, some experts speculated the move might nudge other companies to follow suit.
On Wednesday, TJX Companies, which owns T.J. Maxx, Marshall's and Home Goods, said it will pay workers $9 per hour starting in June. In 2016, employees who have been with the company six months or longer will receive $10 per hour, according to CNNMoney.
The National Retail Federation is against any increase in the minimum wage; the current federal minimum wage is $7.25.
