Recreational water illnesses, according to a news release, are those caused by germs that can contaminate recreational water such as pools, lakes and water parks. Some germs are chlorine-resistant and can live for days in properly chlorinated pools.
Recreational water illnesses can be prevented with healthy swimming behaviors:
• Do not swim when you have diarrhea.
• Don’t swallow pool water.
• Shower or bathe before swimming.
• Wash hands after using the restroom or changing a diaper.
• Take children on frequent bathroom breaks during water activities and change diapers often.
• Do not change diapers poolside.
