Timeshare exit biz owner pleads guilty to fraud

Posted online

A Springfield man has pleaded guilty to crimes conducted through multiple timeshare exit businesses.

Brian Scroggs, 54, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of failure to pay employment taxes, according to a news release from the office of R. Matthew Price, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri.

Scroggs operated several timeshare exit businesses, including Vacation Consulting Services LLC, The Transfer Group, VCS Communication LLC and Real Travel LLC.

According to the federal government's release, Scroggs failed to honor the representations and guarantees made to each of his clients. Those clients paid Scroggs "considerable amounts of money."

Scroggs additionally failed to pay employment taxes he collected to the Internal Revenue Service and the state of Missouri. He also failed to pay matching funds for which he was obligated as the owner and operator of the businesses.

Under federal statutes, Scroggs could face a sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison without parole and a maximum fine of $250,000. For failing to pay employment taxes, he could face a maximum fine of $10,000.

Attempts to reach Scroggs for comment were unsuccessful by deadline.
