TikTok sued for allegedly sending data to China

California college student Misty Hong filed suit against social media video app TikTok.

The suit, which seeks class-action status, accuses TikTok of sending private user data to servers in China. TikTok has assured regulators and users that it does not store personal data in China, although the company is owned by Beijing-based ByteDance Technology.

TikTok also is facing a U.S. government national security probe over data storage and censorship concerns.
