TikTok CEO resigns after less than three months

Former Disney executive Kevin Mayer resigned as CEO of TikTok less than three months after taking the job.

Mayer, who also was chief operating officer of TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, said "the political environment has sharply changed" at the company. President Donald Trump has called for a ban of the app in the United States over security concerns, and he's pushed for its U.S. business to be sold to an American company.

"I have done significant reflection on what the corporate structural changes will require, and what it means for the global role I signed up for," Mayer said in a letter to employees. "I understand that the role that I signed up for – including running TikTok globally – will look very different as a result of the U.S. administration’s action to push for a sell-off of the U.S. business.”
