Three programs receive HUD funding for Springfield

Posted online
U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill on Monday announced more than $2.4 million in grants and funding for three HUD programs that are providing housing assistance in Springfield.

The programs receiving funding, and the amounts each received, are:

• American Dream Downpayment Initiative, $22,310;

• The Home program, $1.04 million; and

• Community Development Block Grants, $1.4 million.

According to a news release from McCaskill’s office, the ADDI program is a new initiative of the Home program that promotes homeownership by providing resources for down payments and closing costs for low-income individuals and minorities.

The Home program works to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low-income families by providing grants to state and local governments to fund housing programs for local needs and priorities. CDBG funds are used by state and local governments to develop viable urban communities with decent housing, suitable living environments and expanded economic opportunities.

“Housing inititiatives like these will help put the American dream of owning a home within reach for many Missouri families,” McCaskill spokeswoman Adrianne Marsh said, in the release.[[In-content Ad]]
