Posted online
Auction house Sotheby’s later this month will sell off two of the most important documents from 19th century America.

Copies of the Emancipation Proclamation, originally signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, and the 13th Amendment – signed by Lincoln in 1865 less than two months before his assassination – are on the auction block.

The Emancipation Proclamation, which liberated roughly 4 million slaves, is a version Lincoln signed in 1864 and is expected to sell for between $1.5 million and $2 million.

Abolishing slavery and involuntary servitude, the 13th Amendment document is one of three Lincoln signed for the U.S. Senate. It’s expected to fetch $2 million-$3 million, according to Fortune.
