Theater attendance down in second quarter

Springfield Theatre Alliance members reported attendance of 40,832 in the second quarter, a 36 percent decrease compared to the same quarter of 2012.

In a news release, officials claimed attendance was down, in part, due to some members relocating.

Springfield Theatre Alliance, which meets the first Wednesday of every month, comprises:

• Springfield Contemporary Theatre;
• Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts;
• Springfield Little Theatre at the Landers;
• Drury University Theatre;
• The Springfield Playhouse;
• Missouri State University Theatre and Dance;
• MSU Opera Theatre;
• MSU Tent Theatre;
• SRO Lyric Theatre;
• The Skinny Improv;
• Ozarks Technical Community College Fine Arts;
• Gillioz Theatre;
• A Class Act Productions; and
• Queen City Collective.

Alliance members share best practices to support the Springfield theater community, the release said.
