Theater alliance reports spike in attendance

Members of the Springfield Theatre Alliance reported fourth-quarter attendance of 96,248 visitors, an 87 percent increase compared to 51,577 in the same quarter of 2011.

The latest results represent a 232 percent increase over third-quarter attendance of 29,018, according to a news release, which noted fourth-quarter attendance is typically strong due to the number of attractions in October, November and December.

The visitor count at member theaters totaled 207,933 last year, a 4.2 percent increase compared to 2011.
