The Whitlock Co. nabs spot on best workplaces list

Springfield-based certified public accounting firm The Whitlock Co. was named one of the 100 2011 Best Accounting Firms to Work For by Accounting Today and Best Companies Group. Whitlock has made the list four years in a row.

Whitlock is the only local company on the 2011 list and one of three statewide. The list is available on Accounting Today's Web site.

Anders Minkler & Diehl LLP and Brown Smith Wallace LLC, both of St. Louis, also made the list.

Listed firms are split into three categories: 50 small firms with 15 to 49 employees; 45 midsize firms with 50 to 249 employees; and five large firms with more than 250 employees. Whitlock lands in the small-firm category.

Accounting firms nationwide were surveyed for the list. The first portion of the survey evaluated workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second portion was an employee survey, according to a news release.

The fourth annual Best Accounting Firms to Work For rankings will be presented at an awards ceremony Oct. 25-27 in Las Vegas. The firms also will be published in the December issue of Accounting Today.

The Whitlock Co., which was founded in 1913, also operates a Joplin office.

In August, The Whitlock Co. was ranked No. 5 in Springfield Business Journal's list of the area's largest CPA firms with 16 local CPAs and a total local staff of 30.[[In-content Ad]]
