Between 2009 and 2013 nearly 1.5 million college-educated immigrants in the U.S. were employed in positions that were below their skill-sets. This comes at a cost to the U.S. economy, according to a report by CNN Money.
Researchers found nearly $39.4 billion more a year would have gone to this group of immigrants if they had worked in jobs that met their skill-sets. That translates to nearly $10.2 billion more in federal, state and local taxes, the report said.
Some cities are trying to make changes in this area by creating programs that partner with immigrants to improve employment opportunities for them.
