It’s probably easy to guess who the richest person in America is — Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) founder Bill Gates, with an estimated net worth of $81.5 billion. How about in each state?
Without question the richest in Nebraska is Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A), with $66.9 billion, and everyone knows a member of the Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s (NSYE: WMT) Walton family claims Arkansas, this time Cristy Walton with $37.9 billion.
But what about the richest person in Texas, Florida or even Missouri? Ultra-high net worth intelligence website Wealth-X released its annual list with some familiar and some not-so-familiar names.
In Missouri, the title goes to Jack Taylor. Name not ring a bell? You’ve probably used his product and didn’t even know it. Taylor founded Enterprise Rent-A-Car Co., and Wealth-X estimates his net worth at $7.4 billion.
CNNMoney reports 35 of the 50 list-makers are self-made entrepreneurs and only six women made the list. Utah, New Mexico, Mississippi, Maine, Delaware, Hawaii, South Dakota, Alaska and Wyoming are the only states whose wealthiest residents are not billionaires.
