If you guessed Steve Ballmer, you're correct.
According to Forbes magazine's new 2014 list of the 400 richest Americans, the former Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) CEO is worth $22.5 billion, placing him solidly ontop of the wealthiest American sport owners list.
Ballmer only recently joined the list, purchasing the Los Angeles Clippers this year following the Donald Sterling scandal.
Using Forbes' and ESPN's data, CNN's Bleacher Report places Ballmer more than $5 billion above No. 2 wealthiest sports owner Paul Allen, who is worth an estimated $17 billion and owns the Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trail Blazers.
St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke comes in No. 7 with a net worth of $5.7 billion. He also owns the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets, the Colorado Rapids and soccer club Arsenal.
Ballmer ranks as the 18th richest person in America overall, with American growth growing by leaps and bounds – 118 billionaires didn't make the top 400 list.
