The Market, a vendor-driven business modeled after its predecessor, the former Traders Market, will open June 15 in the same location at 1845 E. Sunshine. The new enterprise fills a void created when Traders Market closed in March after seven years in business.|ret||ret||tab|
Co-owned by Ginny Redfern and Ann Hicks, the new business differs from Traders Market in that it will contain booths from several local artists, as well as retailers, and will focus on unique items. It will also offer a greater selection to customers by housing booths on the second floor of the building, which is owned by Jim Parsons and is leased by The Market. |ret||ret||tab|
The building, near the corner of Sunshine and Glenstone, will undergo renovations inside and out before The Market opens. |ret||ret||tab|
Redfern's Mockingbird Lane, a purveyor of glassware, was a vendor in Traders Market, as was Hicks' interior design and home furnishing store, The Cottage & Edward Keith, which is located in the Brentwood Center.|ret||ret||tab|
"My family's business (The Cottage & Edward Keith) had been in Traders from day one," Hicks said. "My partner, Ginny Redfern, had been in there for about a year when (Traders Market) decided to close it, and she was not ready to quit. I knew that the business could continue on, grow and do better, so I said I would help her."|ret||ret||tab|
Hicks said all but three of the Traders Market vendors will return and eighteen new vendors will open in The Market. It will be set up in the same way as Traders Market was: The vendors will rent booths from The Market and pay The Market 10 percent commission on their sales.|ret||ret||tab|
"We're going to have 30 to 32 vendors coming in, and a cafe. Our vendors range from those who offer antiques to a Victorian clothing boutique to a garden shop," Hicks said. |ret||ret||tab|
Jacinda Curtis, who owns a bakery called Jacinda's Sweets, will operate The Market's cafe and also offer private luncheons for bridal showers, baby showers and related events. Hicks said the cafe will serve sandwiches, quiches, salads, and desserts with a menu that will change monthly.|ret||ret||tab|
"The cafe coming back in will be a big plus," Hicks said. |ret||ret||tab|
The Norwalk Gallery, a provider of upholstered furniture in Traders Market, will also reopen in The Market. Hicks plans to have three full-time employees in the Norwalk Gallery, two of whom are certified interior designers, and another six employees in the market area.|ret||ret||tab|
Jellybeans, a baby and children's clothing store in the Brentwood Center, will return to The Market after three years in Traders Market as a vendor. Owner Nancy Wade said she's looking forward to reopening her booth at the new market and that the cafe will be a help to her business.|ret||ret||tab|
"It's another place for people to see us. It brings in a nice clientele and brings in people who might not just stop by our store," Wade said. |ret||ret||tab|
She said The Market will also have a baby registry. |ret||ret||tab|
The Market will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. |ret||ret||tab|
"We're going to really try to not have a lot of crossover as far as merchandise and ideas. It'll be quite a bit like when Traders first opened ... we're going to bring it back," Hicks said. |ret||ret||tab|
