Springfield nonprofit The Kitchen Inc. on Jan. 22 held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the second phase of Maplewood Villas.
Maplewood Villas II, located at 3905 W. Maple St., comprises 32 affordable housing units for low-income and formerly homeless older adults, with a focus on veterans, according to a news release. The development was built for people who are 55 and older and is made up of two-bedroom, one-bathroom units.
"Maplewood Villas is a service-enriched development to ensure residents are able to maintain their housing and will not return to homelessness," officials said in the release. "Service-enriched developments build a sense of community among residents and improve quality of life for older adults living on their own."
The first phase of Maplewood Villas, a $10 million development, debuted in August 2023, according to past reporting. Phase I has 44 units north of Chestnut Expressway at 550 N. Duke Ave.
