The Flying Lap LLC, a Plaza Shopping Center arcade that opened last year, has closed its doors.
The 1914 S. Glenstone Ave. venture, which was launched by Jason Short in March 2024, announced the closure on Facebook yesterday.
"Attention Springfield: The Flying Lap Simulation & VR is now permanently closed as of today," the post reads. "Thank you to everyone who supported the business during our time of operation. We had a lot of fun bringing simulation to the area and we are cherishing all the memories made. It was a blast!"
A reason was not given for the closure, and Short could not be reached for comment by deadline.
The Flying Lap offered visitors the experience of racing cars and flying airplanes via simulators, some using virtual reality, according to past reporting. Individual and event bookings were among its offerings.
The arcade occupied 2,100 square feet in Plaza Shopping Center space that formerly housed Vaporholics.
