Repeated freeze and thaw cycles can crack and damage concrete over time, especially if it’s not maintained properly. While a concrete driveway or sidewalk with regularly scheduled maintenance can last up to 20 or even 30 years, when freeze and thaw cycles, uneven surfaces, water pitch problems, or cracks start to appear, it’s time to think about repair or replacement.

Replacement can be expensive, but thanks to The Concrete Lifter (TCL), in the greater Springfield area it is now often unnecessary. Dedicated to repairing and stabilizing settled, cracked, or uneven concrete, TCL helps residential and commercial property owners save money, solve problems, and lower their liability risks.

“We use a state-of-the-art technology that was developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation for highway repairs, that has been adapted for industrial and residential applications,” TCL Owner Eric Ferguson said. “This technology has been in place for over 20 years, but we’re just now bringing it to the area.”

Ferguson came across the technology after researching solutions a sunken area in his mother’s driveway. Realizing she wasn’t alone in her need for cost-effective repairs, Ferguson teamed up with Donald Woodward and TCL was moved from idea to a reality. Today, the company stays busy on a variety of residential and commercial projects and delivers results that are much less intrusive than pouring concrete.

“Concrete raising is an extremely clean process. You don’t have the demolition or disposal,” Ferguson said. “That means no downtime, and you can go back to using the treated area immediately, minimizing disruption to your business or foot traffic.”

TCL uses a process that lifts the sunken or damaged concrete back to its original position by drilling small holes into the concrete and strategically injecting environmentally friendly polyurethane beneath the concrete to lift the slab and even things out. The small holes prevent slab-bottom breakout, and produce a nearly invisible scarring on the surface. The process also delivers a greener solution, as the products are all made from recycled materials, are inert and non-toxic, and have no environmental impact.

“Not factoring in the chunks of concrete that usually head to the landfill, concrete is actually considered a hazardous material. When you break it up, it turns into fine dust particles. It creates a mess and somewhat of a health concern,” Ferguson added. “We take the stress out of the process on a financial and environmental level.”

Building a reputation for quality work, Ferguson is pleased to offer his clients with options. From free estimates to flexible scheduling, TLC backs all of their work with a warranty, and Ferguson sees concrete raising as a permanent alternative to costly repairs. “We save clients as much as 50% when compared to replacement, and the whole process is easier.”
