The Coffee Ethic will serve drinks by candlelight for an hour beginning at 8 p.m., according to an Urban Districts Alliance news release.
“It is just one small thing we can do to help our customers and the people of Springfield be more aware of how we can better care for the Earth,” said coffeehouse co-owner Jim Hamilton in the release.
Earth Hour debuted last year with 2 million participants in Sydney, Australia. This year, participants in nearly 200 cities around the world, including Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco, will turn off lights for an hour at 8 p.m. their local time, according to Earth Hour’s Web site, www3.earthhourus.org.
The Coffee Ethic, which opened Dec. 7 in the Kresge building on Park Central Square, has stated goals of being environmentally and socially responsible, according to past Springfield Business Journal coverage.
